Meaningful programs underway nationwide to pay tribute to war invalids, martyrs

(VOVWORLD) - An array of activities took place across Vietnam on Sunday to commemorate War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27.

Immortal feats and revolutionary heroism of generations of Vietnamese people were honored at an art show called "Aspiration for Peace" in the central province of Quang Tri which witnessed 81 days and nights of fierce fighting in 1972. 

“This program continues to write today's peace story to depict generations of Vietnamese youth, generations of heroes who sacrificed their personal dreams for their country,” Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission Truong Thi Mai said.

The aspiration of youth on the journey of rebuilding their homeland after the war, and the aspiration of today's youth is to turn Vietnam into a developed country.

Candle-lighting ceremonies to honor the fallen heroes took place simultaneously at martyr cemeteries across the country.

In Kon Tum province, the ceremony "Lighting candles in gratitude to heroes and martyrs" was held at two locations, the Provincial Martyrs Cemetery and the 10th Division Martyrs Memorial Hall.

“I’m very proud and also very honored to participate in this candlelight ceremony to honor the heroes and martyrs. To be worthy of the merits of our predecessors, I will do my best to study and work to build a more developed country,” said Luu Dinh An, who works at Kon Tum province’s Hospital of Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation.
